Reader's Tips

*To get a really beachy, tan look, find a good bronzer and dust it on your face, concentrating on the cheekbones, chin, forehead and nose (because those are the places that get tan the fastest). Remember to put it on your neck to so that it looks natural. The bronzer goes in place of a blush, also.*

*I was reading a magazine and it said to apply mascara from outside to inside. Well, that pulls your eyelashes outward and doesn't make them look full. I apply from inside to outside, and after that coat dries I do one from outside to inside. It makes them look very full.*- Sarahh

*To make your hair shinier and look good you should crack an egg in a bowl, stir in the yolk and all put it in your hair for 10 minutes, then rinse, shampoo and condition. For blonde hair, use white vinegar. For darker hair, use red vinegar. Also I read in a book that an egg in a bowl with some mayonnaise is good too - 10 minutes in your hair, then rinse, shampoo and condition. Also if you put milk in your hair when you are in the shower and leave it in your hair for about 30 seconds it helps make hair shinier and smoother. Also I heard and read if you put beer in your hair it well get shinier and better looking.*- Nina (Beauty Queen)

*No matter how beautiful or ugly you think you are, here is one tip for all kinds of beauties out there: too much makeup is too much makeup. Now I don't mean the kind of too much where you put a lot of one thing on (i.e. eye shadow, eyeliner, etc), but when you have too many different things on your face, it just doesn't look pretty or natural, because it isn't. The best thing to ever do to your face to accentuate certain features is to put as little as you can to make it noticeable (like, "Wow, your makeup looks good") but not so much that it is too noticeable and fake-looking (like, "What do you really look like?"). Your makeup should compliment your natural features, not overpower them and cover them up.
Speaking of cover-up, too much of that stuff can make your face look really dry and cracky. It is best to use oil free liquid foundation or cover-up, that way you reduce the chance of any acne, and still have a natural look. Most cover-ups and foundations block your pores from getting any oxygen, and traps dirt in them...that is when you are not helping your skin by covering it up, but actually making it worse. If you can find time when you are at home and don't really care what you look like, make sure your skin can breathe, that way it can be rid of most dirt that gets trapped in it while wearing that kind of makeup.
Blush and eyeliner are other things you want to keep on the low...meaning not too much of it. As long as you can still see your beautiful natural features, then that amount of makeup is still OK. Again, most important thing: TOO MUCH IS TOO MUCH, and that's NOT a good thing :)

*For all those of us out there who tweeze our eyebrows here are your basic guidelines. The brow should start right above the inner eye (the tear duct). Follow your natural arch, but it should reach its peak above the center of your eye (your pupil if you are looking straight in the mirror). And finally the end of the brow should be in a diagonal line from the corner of the outside of your eye to the end of the brow.
If you are having problems with bald patches in the brows, use a brow pencil about one shade lighter than your natural color, or it will look too bold and fake. Don't forget to trim your brows. Most women make the mistake of plucking the hairs that are higher than the others. The root is it the center, but the brow is too long. This causes uneven spots, and no one wants that. So with an eyebrow brush, comb the hair upwards and snip them with a pair of small scissors (all tools come in a standard eyebrow kit) and there you have it. Perfect brows.
*- Jennifer
- Great tips and subject - a lot of women are unsure about plucking their brows, especially if they've never done it on their own. And a very good point about following the natural arch - as it varies from person to person, it really pays off to stick to your own brow shape. Often the highest point of the arch will be off center, and slightly closer to the outer corner of the eye, so keeping your new tweezed shape in line with the original will keep your brows looking much more natural. Thanks for the tips Jennifer :)

*My mom and my sister went to Mexico with our church youth group, and while they were there they swam a lot. Since they knew that they would be swimming the next day they didn't wash their hair every night and their hair started getting really dry and coarse, so one of the girls in the youth group gave them this tip: After swimming and you are about to go to bed, when your hair is damp (or even if its not) pour enough conditioner to cover all your hair on your head and brush through it. (It should be pretty easy to brush through). In the morning you can either take a shower or if you're like my sister and mom just go swimming and the water will rinse it out. When you get out - trust me, your hair will be feeling smoother and looking more shiny even if you haven't washed it.* - Haley (beauty queen)
- Thanks Haley, leaving conditioner in your hair overnight is a fantastic tip! And to add to that, just a quick reminder - it's always a good idea to try to at least rinse your hair after swimming, since salt water and/or chlorine are really drying, and not something you want to try to comb through if either dries in your hair. If you don't have the time or available space to shampoo, even dumping some water over your head will help. And keep in mind that hair is pretty fragile when wet, so comb the conditioner through gently, to avoid breakage :)

*Hey all you beauty cravers. The best tips I can give you are: When you're putting on your bronzer suck your cheeks in and put your bronzer on under your cheekbones, then smile and put your blush on, then frown and blend together. Eyeliner: Only put on bottom. Hair: If you don’t have time to shower and your hair is greasy, use baby powder.*- Samantha

If you are struggling with the problem of thin lips or would just like to plump them up a tad, don't get injected, but use your finger! When applying your lip gloss, use the pad of your finger and dab the gloss on your lips. It works well - I read this tip in a magazine.*- Lauren (makeup queen)

*Whenever I use eye shadow I never really know what colours I should use, but I started to use eye shadow that was the same color as my eyes and it looks really nice. Whenever I want my lips to look nice I always put lipstick on first, dab it with a tissue so its dry and then I put some clear lip gloss on - trust me it looks really sexy, and if you dab that a bit too it looks really natural!*

*I have small eyes, and I figured out just the trick to make them pop, and bring out their natural shape. Put a white or cream colored shimmer eye shadow up to the crease, and above the crease use a pinkish red blush as an eye shadow. A thin line of smoky gray liner will define their shape. This works great, and makes that sparkle in your eyes come alive!*- Lauren

*Eyeliner on the bottom with just mascara on top gives you a nice clean look. Also, the browns and light browns give you a nice professional kind of look.*

*If you have staticky hair after you blow dry it put lotion on your hands and then smooth over your hair - works like a charm.*- Sarahh

*
One time I ran out of nail polish remover and I needed to take of my nail color, so I used other nail polish to take it off! I just put a thick coat of it on, let it sit for a few seconds and then wiped it off! It worked great!*

*If you have pimples you should take a shower every day before you go to bed and put soap on your face while you are in the shower - they will go away. If your face gets red once in a blue moon then get some cover up that is about right for your face and skin color. If that doesn't work you should get hemorrhoid cream. It's the best way to go. Another way to go is put toothpaste on your pimples and soon they will go away.*Nina

*I discovered a great makeup tip. I found out that if you have acne blotches that you would like to get rid of, the way to do it is by trying to avoid putting on drying up creams but to actually moisturize your face instead. It works like a charm.*- Cortney

*If you have nails [or toenails] that are getting kind of yellow, cut a lemon into quarters and use the pieces to scrub at your nails.  Works like a charm.
For all hair types, egg is a natural and great protein.  So in a bowl, whisk together the yolk and white, apply to hair, leave in ten minutes, rinse, shampoo, and then condition.
For blonde hair, pour white vinegar on it {yes, it does stink} leave in hair (ten minutes), and rinse, shampoo, and condition.
For darker hair, use red vinegar, leave in hair (ten minutes), rinse, shampoo, and condition.
*- Linsey

*I use a little bit of body glitter over my eye shadow to give a sparkle or two. It may feel weird at first but you get used to it. After that I got compliments on how beautiful my eyes were and how did I do it. I never did reveal my secret until now.* - Samantha W.

*Once every week I pour a cup of milk over my head, in the shower, and let it sit for about 30 seconds. Then I wash it out and it helps keep my hair silky and strong.*  - Gracie

One time I was washing my face and my mom came in.  I was complaining about how after I wash my face I still have smeared eyeliner/eye mascara under my eyes.  Usually plain old soap will take if off but if it gets in your eyes it really burns.  She told me to put baby oil on a cotton ball and gently rub it over my eyes.  So I did it and it worked.  After I use the baby oil I take a wet wash cloth and rub off the excess baby oil so that is doesn't make my face oily and break out.  The baby oil also makes your eyelids very smooth.  I tried it and it worked so I thought I would tell everyone else about it too.*

*When applying lipstick pat it on don't glide it on, that gives it a natural look.*- Jeanette

*This may sound really gross, but if you get a zit put some hemorrhoid cream on it and it will make the zit go away really fast. You can notice a difference in about an hour.*

*Put clear lip gloss/lip glow on your eye lids.*- Jessica

*In the summer time you should put on sunscreen before your base...and base that already has an SPF in it is best to use in the summer too. Also, if you can't get your naturally curly hair to straighten, spritz a little bit of hairspray and then flat iron it with a ceramic straightener...works every time!!*- Jerica
- Thanks for the great tips, and remember when doing this it's best to use an alcohol free hairspray that's formulated for use with heat styling :)

*Put Vaseline on your lips and take a shower . Leave the Vaseline on your lips during the shower. Your lips will not crust.  Also, put Vaseline on your eyelashes and eyelids. It will give you a beautiful shine!*- Alexis S.

My friend and I decided to try out some stuff we had in the fridge to see what else we could use them for. I took lemon juice and put it in a bowl with a little bit of water. We put our hands in for about 10 minutes, and when we took them out we noticed this white stuff around our nails. Well, we showed to my mom (she is a doctor) and she said that what we did is healthy. It cleans out cuts and makes your cuticles easier to go back. That night we were reading a makeup tip book. It said that an easy way to get rid of pimples was to put a little bit of toothpaste on them. So we tried it, and in the morning when we woke up our pimples were practically gone! I used the toothpaste method for about a week and it worked. My pimples were all gone and I got lots of compliments from people about my clear skin.*- Holly K.

*
If you use a damp toothbrush after you have brushed your teeth it will leave them smooth and lady like, and after you finish use a clear gloss to keep your lips smooth.*

*
If you have a drawer full of lipsticks that looked better in the store, try mixing two shades together to make your own custom color. This is a great way to lighten colors that are too dark (by blending with a lighter lipstick in the same color family).* - Christina from VT

*When my hair is full of static and I have nothing on hand to help tame it, I run an unused dryer sheet over my hair a few times. This cuts down on the static a lot, and it smells pretty good too!*- Amy C.
