For Lasting Lip Color

*Matte lipsticks tend to last longer than the pearly or glossy variety. They will also empathize (and enhance) any dryness so be sure your lips aren't really dry or flaky before applying.*

*For lipstick longevity, use some loose powder between coats. After the first coat of lipstick, press a one ply tissue over your mouth, and lightly brush on some powder (over the tissue). Apply the second coat and you're in business.*

*Many of the new "all day" lipsticks live up to their promise and actually do last for hours. Be warned though - they can be really drying. Most come with a tube or stick of gloss that should be reapplied fairly frequently to avoid flaking and cracking.*

Lip Basics

*Moisturize your lips before putting on lipstick. Apply your favorite lip treatment and let it absorb for a few minutes, then blot it off and you're ready for color!*

*A dark colored lipstick will draw attention to the shape and size of your mouth. If you pine for plump lips but are working with those of the more "petite" variety, avoid deep shades - they'll only make your lips look thinner.*

*A smudge of a lighter colored, shiny lipstick (or gloss) on the middle of your bottom lip will give you a bit more pout.*

*If your teeth are on the yellow side, avoid lipsticks with a lot of brown in them.*

Lip Liner Tips

*When lining your lips, follow their natural shape. While it may be tempting to make up for where you feel you're lacking - say, by drawing outside of the line to make your lips appear larger - it will just end up looking obvious and messy.*

*Use a neutral colored pencil to line and fill in lips. Coloring your entire mouth not only gives lipstick a great base, but also wards off the scary two toned look that was big in the '70's..*

*If you'd like a natural look with just a hint of color, use a lip liner in a shade that's close to the natural color of your lips, and top it with a bit of clear gloss.*
